The Living Pink Pageant was born in 2011, with the goal of strengthening the local community through fundraising, and a positive message. This pageant is NOT a beauty pageant, but a Survivor pageant. It is a day to celebrate life and give back what cancer has taken.
The pageant is a celebration of life. It was born from the desire to honor and pamper those individuals that have fought and survived breast cancer. Contestants of the pageant must either be currently battling or be a survivor of breast cancer. Last year we raised over $15,000, for the Breast Cancer Resource Center (BCRC), but with their closure; we are looking forward to doubling that goal for our new partner the Linked by Pink.
We have had the honor of seeing first hand, the positive impact this event has had on the lives of its participants. Many of the participants are fortunate enough to have wonderful support from their family and friends, but the ones that don’t blossom in ways you can’t imagine, during the preparation and the pageant process. It’s not about vanity or competition, it’s about regaining a feeling of wholeness and personal identity that is lost during the clinical process of chemo therapy, clinic visits; of doctors prodding and poking you; needles and bags of foreign fluids, and large cold machines.
